Hope for Vision is dedicated to raising funds to advance groundbreaking scientific/medical research for the treatments and cures of blinding genetic retinal diseases.
The cost of this vision loss is extraordinary. According to the most recent National Eye Institute study, the nation spends more than $67 billion annually due to direct and indirect costs of vision loss. This is more than 100 times the annual budget of the National Eye Institute at the National Institutes of Health.
Recent groundbreaking successes in vision research – including the restoration of vision in human trials employing gene therapies and biotechnology prosthetics – give us hope that blinding diseases will be eradicated. The sole obstacle to scientific breakthroughs is the availability of research funding.
Hope for Vision is committed to raising funds for this critical research. The hundreds of volunteers and vision advocates comprising our Communities of Hope have raised more than twelve million dollars through a myriad of special events. Guided by our Board of Visionary Scientists, Hope for Vision distributes the funds, as Grants, directly to scientists at leading medical institutions nationwide. Their dedicated research has significantly contributed to the prevailing success of achievements in saving and restoring sight.
